Huge or tiny and of every imaginable type of animal life, Taman Negara's faunal community holds many secrets of the living ecosystem. There are around 200 known species of mammals inhabiting the forests of Taman Negara. Among them are the Asian Elephant, Barking Deer, Fyling Lemur, Lepord, Lesser Mousedeer, Malayan Sun Bear, Malayan Tiger, Palm Civet and many more.
The diversity of life is no accident. Abundant food plants, water and habitat variety provide all the necessary living requirements for wildlife survival and variety. Plants species range from lowland dipterocarp forests and reverine vegetation, through the oaks and laurels of the intermediate attitudes, to the dwarf upper montane ericaceous vegetation in the summit region of Gunung Tahan.
